In partnership with the Yemeni Women’s Union, Experts for Development Organization organizes a workshop on combating violence in Taiz.

Under the auspices of Dr. Amin Mahmoud, Governor of Taiz governorate, EDO in partnership with the Yemeni Women Union and with the support of UNFPA launched a workshop on “the role of civil society organizations and activists in combating gender-based violence The inauguration was attended by the deputy governor Dr. Abdul Hakim Aoun, who welcomed the participants in a speech and said: “The project against violence based on gender is part of all because violence is now a general phenomenon that is practiced on all and we are all affected by it without discrimination.”

Pointing out that” The violence that exists in Taiz governorate and in the rest of the governorates needs a culture of peace , love, fraternity, and dialogue, cooperation for good, seeking to raise individuals and develop society so that we can reach sustainable development and the security and stability of the nation.”

Mr. Abdo Ali, Director of the Office of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, also attended the inauguration, welcoming the attendees and estimating the role played by Experts for Development Organization in achieving sustainable development, non-violence and peace-building, thanking  the implementation of this workshop, which is held in partnership with Yemeni Women Union, where the Union plays a very important role. In his speech, he thanked the Yemen Women Union and UNFPA for their fruitful support for such events, which help raise community awareness combating gender-based violence.

Amer al-Rumeima, Executive Director ofEDO, explained that this workshop is the first workshop targeting civil society organizations, youth initiatives and activists in Taiz governorate, the main aim is to highlight the problem of the project as well as to stimulate and activate the role of civil society organizations and activists in combating gender-based violence, where this workshop raised a range of topics and concluded a matrix of recommendations and proposals at the end of the workshop.

He added that the workshop was attended by 20 males and 20 females with a total of 40 participants, explaining that this workshop is part of the workshops that the organization seeks to implement within the plan of its activities in May 2018.

The executive director of the organization thanked the Yemeni Women Union and UNFPA for their fruitful support and community service efforts.

It is worth mentioning that other workshops will be carried out in May 2018 in the same topic and objectives targeting other groups of society in Taiz governorate.
